Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide excellence in early childhood teaching and learning.

Together with parents, caregivers, whanau and the surrounding community, Arthur Burns will continue to provide a child focused teaching and learning environment that sees the tamariki as taonga to be nurtured and cared for.

Our Philosophy

“Whangaia ka tupu ka puawai”
That which is nurtured grows and blossoms.

Our preschool strives to provide a safe, nurturing learning environment for our tamariki which promotes questioning, is rich in language and resources, is stimulating, challenging, fun and above all instills a love of learning.

Our curriculum encompasses both intentional and spontaneous teaching and follows the principles and strands of Te Whaariki.
All tamariki are valued and respected as unique individuals and given opportunities to become confident and competent learners, learning to respect, understand and value differences.

We believe strongly in our relationships and partnerships with parents and whanau.  We believe in building strong relationships with our whanau working together to respect the culture and values of all.
We foster a sense of belonging in our Preschool, we are welcoming and inclusive of the wide diversity of children and whanau who attend.  Parents will be encouraged and given opportunities to share in the life of our Preschool.

We recognise and acknowledge the Treaty of Waitangi and we practice this in our daily program through stories, waiata, karakia and tikanga.

The governing committee and management will provide leadership, resources, policies and procedures developed in partnership with teachers, whanau, children to ensure excellence in teaching and learning for all children.
